Under fire Schalke 04 trainer Jens Keller has been given the second bite of the cherry by club’s board to stay as the head coach despite not having produced victories for the past weeks.
It was widely believed that the 43-year-old mentor would be sacked during the winter, but Sporting director Horst Heldt said the coach’s position was under review after Sunday’s 0-0 draw against Nurn berg but has been given a vote of confidence.
“All topics were discussed constructively and openly, also with a clear analysis of what has to be improved,” read part of the club statement.
“Jens Keller and his coaching team will work on this when the preparations for the second half of the season begin on January 3.”
The 43-year-old took charge of Schalke 04 in December 2012 and he signed a two-year contract extension in May this year.
