Zimbabwe. (News of The South) -The Zimbabwe Warriors and South African Giant Kaizer Chiefs gritty midfielder Kingpin Willrad Katsande is likely to miss the crucial Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) Group G qualifiers next month against Congo Brazzaville set for the National Sports Stadium on the 24th of March.
The Kaizer Chiefs defensive stalwart whose form and standard has dwindled and crumbling. More over he has lost that deft, gritty sweep in front of the back four giving cover to Chiefs’s regular number one keeper Ithumeleng Khune.
The loss of form by the talented defensive linkman came just after his self imposed sanction,so called national duty retirement, self exclusion in the Warriors setup 2 years back only to resurface in the match against Liberia in Monrovia after he was recalled up for national duty by Chidzambwa but they went on to lose that match by a goal to nil(1-0) in a match they wanted to avoid a defeat to qualify for the Afcon finals in Egypt.
The 33 year old defensive midfielder was a darling to both the Warriors and Kaizer Chiefs followers. He lost that form, workaholic brilliance which made him one of the toughest defensive linkman in both Warriors and Chiefs colors. The loss of form and cameo appearances at Chiefs might be the talking point and reason for Sunday Chidzambwa to likely omit or scratch him from the provisional Warriors Squad list. Katsande is no longer a regular player at Chiefs as he used to be,sometimes he comes in as a substitute or being subbed. He no longer command that place in the first Eleven.
Its justifiable for Sunday to exclude him the coming crucial match where the Warriors will need to avoid a defeat to book a place in the Afcon finals set for July in Egypt this year.
The South African based Golden Arrows Zimbabwean, former Chicken Inn defensive midfielder Danny ‘Deco’ Phiri is the main man who is likely to replace Katsande in that defensive role. Danny missed the Monrovia tie against Liberia together with the Nottingham England based defender Tendayi Darikwa due to suspension.
The Warriors gaffer Sunday Chidzambwa is likely to include a number of the European based players in this do or die crucial match penciled for the National Sports stadium in few weeks time.
