Harare, Zimbabwe (News of The South) – With the booting out of top Zanu PF youth league executive members last week, there is already jostling for the positions among the youths in the ruling party.

Indications are that the deputy minister of sports and culture,Tinoda Machakaire affectionately known as ‘Tinmac’ is being touted to replace the secretary general of the Zanu PF youth league.

“Most members in the party have been impressed by the Wedza South MP ‘s humbleness and his efforts in uplifting the youths no wonder why there are calls to replace Togarepi with Tinmac,” said one activist who requested anonymity.

Also in the mix is Tendai Chirau who is already the acting youth league boss.

“ Many view him as corruption and scandal free. However, having served as Secretary for Administration many accused him of being idle and not initiating programmes beneficial to youths while some crushed that assertion pointing out he was not the one calling the shots,” added the activist.

So overwhelming is the jostling that names sprouting include former deputy finance minister Terence Mukupe, Justice Mayor Wadyajena, Godwin Gomwe and Energy Mutodi.

“The former deputy minister of finance Mukupe was suggested by some and it was said he would use his financial muscle to revive the youth league. But he was rejected by many as lacking leadership qualities.

“ Justice Mayor Wadyajena, the Gokwe Nembudziya legislator was a hit in one group. But the majority think he is too pompous for that post and Energy Mutodi, the deputy minister of information was suggested in some groups with the claims he was loyal to ED and he is youthful but was discredited for being too corrupt and that he has lost contact with his support base in his constituency after being MP and he never responds to phone calls ,”revealed another activist.

Former Zanu Harare youth chairman Godwin Gomwe is also another favourite to land the top post because of his ‘energetic ,innovative and proven track record of being faithful to the party and some believes he is also an ideal candidate to replace Tsenengamu for the political commissar position.

Activist Taurai Kandishaya who has been ‘ actively defending the ED-led administration through his organisation Citizens Forum’ is also another name being proposed.

The list also mentions youthful farmer John Muchenje and Kenneth Pasipamire.

“The young champion farmer of the Year 2019 from Midlands is said to be inspirational and hard working constantly breaking new ground. However the majority said he is ‘too chilled’ and not a politician and recommended he sticks to farming.

“Kenneth Pasipamire, the South African based millionaire, who is in his early 30s and once tried to become ZANU PF Harare youth provincial chairman was suggested by some as a potential candidate. But alas! The majority rejected him on basis that he is almost always away and though loyal to the Party he lacks the critical experience to become a national leader and he is better off trying his luck at provincial level,” said the mole.
