Harare, Zimbabwe (News of the South)-Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development Minister Professor Jonathan Moyo has refused to be cowed into withdrawing his comments attacking the government’s Command Agriculture programme after state media bashed him recently.
In statements from his Twitter account Moyo has refused to take the accusations lying down, hitting back at his critics and vowing to continue exposing the lies publicly.
“Why should public lies be corrected privately?
“The blatant & yet needless lies risk damaging an otherwise successful agricultural season!”
“Blatant lies and misrepresentation about Command Agriculture are harmful & will be exposed without fear or favour!” he said.
Moyo said the Command programme has been a failure unlike its other two compatriots.
“Two successful agriculture support programs in 2017 are the Presidential Input Support Scheme & the Cotton Support Scheme!”
“Command Bullying? Criticism not of the program but of lies about it. Don’t drag the President’s name to defend lies!’, he charged.
Moyo ridiculed the VP Mnangagwa-led Command Agriculture programme calling it a failure that has wasted over $500 million.
However state media responded by calling his statements acerbic and said the programme is set to exceed targets.
Quoted analysts took turns to attack Moyo with a variety of accusations.
Namibia based analyst Mr Tafadzwa Mugwadi said Moyo could still be suffering from “opposition syndrome” since he had spent time in opposition politics.
“It is regrettable that Prof Moyo in all wisdom, real or imagined, fails to understand basic aspects of team work. One would be pardoned to suggest that he could still be possessed by pro-opposition demons, having spent more time in the opposition than with the ruling party”, he said.
The analysts went on to call for decisive action be taken against the voluble Moyo who has been using Twitter as a platform to air his views.
Another analyst Mr Tendai Toto also accused Moyo of having infringed on Cabinet rules on Zanu PF’s regulations.
