Zengeza West legislator and MDC Alliance deputy Chairperson, Job Sikhala was remanded in custody on Saturday after his application to challenge placement on remand was not successful.
Sikhala will spend the whole weekend at Chikurubi Maximum Prison.
According to his lawyer, Advocate Eric Matinenga, made an application for the investigating officer of his case to come and testify after the State led by Garudzo Ziyaduma from the National Prosecuting Authority said there was no need for him to testify as they had solid grounds to place him on remand.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has charged Job Sikhala with incitement to commit public violence.
A close source said Sikhala who was arrested on Friday was sold out by an MDC “youth” he was hiding with and it seems the young man couldn’t see any benefit in supporting Job’s directionless cause… Now Job is in jail, the young man got a handsome reward from the police.
“There is no loyalty in MDC some party activists who have been on the forefront organising the 31 July demonstration which was ignored by citizens have been arrested for inciting public violence and some are hiding”,said the source.
Meanwhile, Sikhala, Makomborero Haruziviishe, Godfrey Kurauone, Gift Ostallos Siziba, Promise Mkwananzi, Denford Ngadziore, Allan Moyo, Obey Sithole, Obert Masaraure, Jim Kunaka, Stephen Chuma and Robson Chere are on the polist list.
