(News Of The South) – In his first match in charge of Tottenham soon after replacing the sacked Portuguese coach Andres Villas-Boas, Sherwood could not believe his eyes seeing his team exiting from Capital One Cup following a 2-1 defeat at home at the hands of West Ham on Wednesday night.

Despite taking the lead with 23 minutes to spare through the outcast Togolese striker Emmanuel Adebayor, Sherwood’s men conceded two goals in 10 minutes after Matt Jarvis and Madibo Maiga netted for West Ham to ensure their side progresses to the last four of the Capital One Cup.

Expressing his views soon after the match, Sherwood told Sky Sports:”This is a major disappointment both for the boys and for myself and more importantly for the football club.

“I think we need to defend better as a group. The players need to recognise when to rest on the ball.

“I am very disappointed. They got their break and that was it. We started the game very well.

“I thought we were in command of the game. They stuck at it and bombarded us and got us on the breaks.”

The interim coach also showered praises on Adebayor after he scored in his first start of the season despite not having been training with the senior team sometimes.

“I think he did well,” he said.

“The unfortunate thing is that him and Danny Rose had to be substituted to avoid risking their fitness.”
