The One Billion pre-Rising Exhibition: “Extracts: From a time to a place” will be held in Harare on 11 February 11 at 5:30pm at the Book Café, Corner Sixth Street and Samora Machel Ave.
The One Billion rising Campaign has become a notable event in the calendar for fighting against violence on women and girls on the globe. Against this background, a lot of individuals, organisations and corporates have come up with different initiatives to bring the campaign to lights in efforts to raise awareness against the scourge of violence on women and girls.
Extracts: From a time to a place features a photographic collection of different risings the world over and art work mainly by Christine Ndoro. There are extracts from her other exhibitions, “This Woman’s Work” and “Memories of Peace. Other pieces have not been seen until today. Christine rises by holding on to hope of a world where love just is.
This exhibition also features work from Nompilo Nkomo, a happy fiery spirited young woman to whom disability has not dared to bring down.
Nompilo has malformed hands so she paints with her feet. She does a fine job at it too. Nompilo rises by showing that ‘Everything under the sun is possible if we believe’.
The exhibition has extracted work from Catherine Makaya, young, jubilant artist who has something that needs to be said about the world she lives in and the woman she is rising to be.
These three woman are rising this 2014 and invite you to join them as they walk from a time GBV is to a place where every woman is free. Free to live her life in peace, love and happiness.
Join on Tuesday in solidarity with One Billion Rising against violence to women. Be the one who rises while holding the next woman’s hand- so everyone can rise.
