Harare Residents Decry Filthy City Centre Toilets, Blame Incompetent Council
By HRH Princess Eugene Majuru, Princess of Harare
Harare, Zimbabwe (News of The South) – Harrowing reports are emerging from Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe, detailing the appalling state of public toilets in the city centre. Residents are expressing outrage over the unhygienic conditions of facilities at key locations including Corner Charter and Leopold Takawira, Copacabana rank, Harare gardens near Monomatapa hotel, Fourth Street rank, and Coca-Cola corner.
Despite paying a reported 50 cents to use these amenities, Harare residents are met with squalor and neglect, highlighting a severe breakdown in service delivery by the Harare City Council. The situation has ignited public fury, with many questioning the council’s ability to manage even the most basic of services.
“It doesn’t take rocket science or billions of dollars to run a simple toilet,” one disgruntled resident stated. “With so many people seeking employment, what excuse does the City of Harare Council have for this utter failure?”
The anger is palpable, with accusations of incompetence, lack of commitment, dedication, and accountability being levelled against the council. Residents feel their concerns are being ignored, leading to a sentiment that the council has become comfortable with its inadequacies and simply does not care about the well-being of the city’s populace.
Calls for a complete overhaul within the Harare City Council are growing louder, with residents asserting that a “total shake-up” is long overdue to address the deep-seated issues plaguing the municipality.
News of the South has indicated it is awaiting photographic evidence of the conditions at these listed toilets and intends to publish these images soon, further highlighting the extent of the problem. This public exposure is anticipated to intensify the pressure on the Harare City Council to take immediate and decisive action to rectify the unacceptable state of these essential public facilities.
The dire situation of Harare’s public toilets serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by the city’s administration in providing basic services to its residents. The outcry from the public underscores the urgent need for accountability and a renewed commitment to maintaining a clean and healthy urban environment.
