Zimbabwe, Harare. (News Of The South) – The Harare city council has called for the amendment of council traffic by-laws to include arresting of commuters who line-up at illegal pick-up points well known as “Mushikashika” as part of measures to solve traffic chaos.

The combined Harare Residents Association has also urged commuters to unite in restraining drivers who oversee and engage in bad driving habits.

Speaking to journalists in Harare recently, CHRA Chairperson Simbarashe Moyo said,” Passengers must restrain over speeding drivers and must immediately caution and report any driver deemed in-experienced and unqualified to the people.

Meanwhile, Harare residents blasted the Zimbabwe Republic Police for failure to enforce the law while feasting and benefiting on bribes from errant public transport operators and their drivers. In recent times, the issue of notorious Kombi (commuter omnibus) operators has become a cause for concern in Harare with the government now threatening to ban them.

Recently, a Kombi killed seven people on the spot in Chitungwiza, one of Harare ‘s satellite cities.
