Harare, Zimbabwe (News of The South) Zimbabwe is a country that existed well before colonialism took place, the scramble for Africa caused a lot of destruction in Africa. The destruction was physical, mentality and spiritually. Others got colonised to the core and we still see the ills of colonialism and how they were deeply affected.
It is unfortunate that some people don’t even know where they originated from or the history that comes with the areas they dwell in. Harare city council under the Mayorship of Jacob Mafume does not sppear to know the history of the city. On their Harare city website about section available at: https://www.hararecity.co.zw/about they recognise and acknowledge comonial histroy which they highlight as history and origin of the city. They are not knowledgeable about the pre colonial history and who owned and ruled the city, this information is very imporatnt as it forms the history of the city and the name Harare also comes from that very important part of history.

One wonders what the Harare City council is trying to do, on one section of their website they claim to promote culture and history but how does that happen when they fail to acknowledge the information which forms the basis of their existence.
Numerous failures by the Harare city council have led them to become comfortable because they are not accountable to residents of Harare who pay their salaries and are their bosses. Meanwhile Harare residents forget that they are the bosses for Harare City Council and need to approach them to resolve their problems.
Three quarters of Zimbabweans don’t even know the history of the city or the meaning of Harare or where the name came from.
As a descendant of the late King Mbari of the Mbari clan who ruled and owned Harare Kingdom, I have the moral obligation to challenge the Harare city council to acknowledge the important pre colonial history on their website, pre colonial history is much more important that colonial history because that’s where we all come from. A lot of people are still mentally colonised to think everything about white people is more superior than anything to do with Africaness. It’s interesting to hear what Harare city Coundil have to say about it. The name Harare is a very important part of the history.
My great Ancestor King Mbari was powerful physically, and spiritually, he had so many abilities which he used to help people in the olden days. Many people flocked to see him seeking his services such that he ended up not sleeping and he was given the nickname Haarari meaning the one who doesn’t sleep. Harare is however a corrupted name with wrong spelling which should read Haarari.
