Harare, Zimbabwe (News of the South) –Government needs to enact a Climate Act to augment and strengthen the current efforts so far invested in the development of the Climate Change Response Strategy and The Climate Policy according to resolutions from a Climate Policy and Lobby Project (ClimPAL) meeting in Harare on Tuesday.
The workshop which was attended by representatives from the Government, the World Bank, Infrastructure Development Bank of Zimbabwe (IDBZ) and CSOs dealing in climate issues recommended that Government should take swift action in efforts to fully integrate climate issues in the education curriculum at primary, secondary and tertiary level education.
Civil Society Organisations said they are committed to supporting this process through their areas of strength.
“Adaptation allows children’s lives to continue undisrupted significantly by Climate Change, hence the need to push tighter commitment to adaptation mechanism and funding poorer countries and access by Zimbabwe”
“The Government of Zimbabwe needs to continue with, and upscale efforts to capacitate CSOs and business to be able to develop bankable projects and business to be able to develop bankable projects that can attract funding and other lines of financing,” reads part of the recommendations.
Delegates at the workshop also agreed that Government needs to push for and support provisions in the Rule Book which ensure flexibility in accessing funds to the extent that funds do not remain unutilized.
They also recommended that concerns of special interest groups such as women, children, youths, the differently marginalized or disadvantaged groups need to be clearly articulated and captured to avoid them being overshadowed in governments submissions to COP 23.
