Harare, Zimbabwe. (News of The South) – ZIMBABWE has a good number of gospel music couples who have made a name for themselves.
The likes of Pastor Charles Charamba and his wife Olivia quickly come to mind whenever the subject of singing gospel music couples who have put Zimbabwe on the music map crops up.
There are of course other couples in the form of Charles and Namatai Chipanga, the pair which split from Oliver Mtukudzi’s backing group, the Black Spirits, to launch their own successful music career.
Before them, there was Baba naMai Ephraim Patai who put the town of Gweru on the music map with their hard-hitting gospel sounds.
From Chitungwiza comes Baba naMai Welder Mazonde.
The power gospel music couple has released their sixth album titled “Kusvinana Mota” whose six tracks are laden with spiritual and social messages.
Recorded at Far Records, the album “Kusvinana Mota” says it all in its title which suggests the idea of being always there for one another in times of need.
There is one particular song “Madzvatsvatsva” that is spot on in the way that some people these days are hop-scotching from one church to another, especially at the rate at which most of these church ministries are mushrooming up.
Such people and indeed all those who believe in God are reminded that the Lord is always watching them and whatever they do never escapes God who is omniscient, omnipresent and omnipotent.
In order to escape God’s wrath, people are reminded to repent and follow in His way, in the song titled “Tenda Mwari”.
The greedy ones on earth, who want every piece of the big pie which belongs to everyone, are chided in the track “Makaro” while “Kuchema Chema” and “Mbiri YaJesu” make up the rest of the playlist.
As has become the norm, the album carries danceable rhythms which have become their signature on all their previous albums.
Some of their previous hits include “NdiJesu Anorarama”, “Huya Kuna Jesu”, “Mafaro Enyika Anopera” and “Tiza Nehupenyu Hwako”.
The couple derives its name Baba naMai Welder Mazonde from the fact that the husband is a welder by profession.
They play backed by The Power Word.
