ZIMBABWE coach Ian Gorowa has called on his players not to press the panic button ahead of their final African Nations Championship Group B match against Burkina Faso on Monday.
The Warriors have now gone for 180 minutes without scoring a goal after dominating their two opening matches against Morocco and Uganda but still failing to find the back of the net.
Zimbabwe now take on bottom placed Burkina Faso in their final Group B match of the Chan finals at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town, aiming for an outright win to book a place in the quarter-finals.
Burkina Faso who have collected one point from two matches also go into Monday’s match with a realistic chance to gate crash the quarter-finals party.
The West African country only need to beat Zimbabwe and hope table toppers Uganda either hold or beat Morocco to ensure their passage into the knockout stage.
Gorowa admitted his side was now under pressure but called on his players to remain level headed and see off Burkina Faso in their last match of Group B.
“I hope they won’t panic because the players are now under pressure, ”Gorowa said.
“It was a win at all costs game (against Uganda).
What worries me is that we are creating chances but we are not scoring.
I hope we can score goals against Burkina Faso. It’s an uphill task but we’re still hopeful.”
The 43-year-old coach has largely stuck to the same side throughout the tournament and is likely to stick to his guns for Monday’s must-win-match.
Zimbabwe are seeking to progress past the group stages for the first time in three appearance at the continental showpiece reserved for the crème de le crème of African football.
