Gmail and Whatsapp Reach One Billion Users
Harare, Zimbabwe (News of the South)-Messaging application Whatsapp has reached the major milestone of 1 billion users across the globe in a groundbreaking achievement for the Facebook owned application.
In a statement released recently the company expressed its pride in touching so many lives across the globe.
Whatsapp was acquired by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg for a staggering $19 billion in 2015 and has grown from the then 450 million monthly users to the current landmark reach.
“As of today one billion people are using Whatsapp”.
“That’s exactly one in seven people on earth who use Whatsapp each month to stay in touch with their loved ones, their friends and their family”.
“We are proud of this milestone, and we’re humbled by the extraordinary ways all of you have used Whatsapp”.
“Whether it’s sharing vital information during natural disasters or health emergencies finding a date, growing a small business, buying an engagement ring or seeking better life- we are honored to be a small part of what people are doing to make their lives and the lives of those around them better”.
Email service application Gmail now also has one billion users to join other billion market applications which are Android, Chrome, Google Play, Maps, YouTube and Search.
Facebook has previously announced planes to monetize Whatsapp and turning it into a tool businesses can use for communication with clients.
Under Facebook’s acquisition of Whatsapp, it will pay $4billion in cash, $12 billion in Facebook shares and $3 billion in restricted stock units to be granted to Whatsapp founders and employees that will vest over fours years.
