GLASGOW, SCOTLAND (News of The South) – The streets of Glasgow have been buzzing with a different kind of energy as the city serves as a stand-in for the bustling streets of New York City in the upcoming Marvel blockbuster, Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Originally scheduled to wrap up in mid-August, the production has been granted an extension by the Glasgow City Council, much to the delight of local fans and the star-struck tourists who have flocked to the city.
For weeks, Glasgow’s city center has been unrecognizable. Iconic landmarks and streets like Bothwell Street, Merchant City, and George Square have been meticulously redressed to resemble the Big Apple. The transformation is complete with American flags and banners, authentic-looking NYPD vehicles, and the iconic yellow taxis that have become synonymous with NYC.
The filming, starring Tom Holland as the friendly neighborhood hero and Zendaya as MJ, has drawn immense crowds. Fans have been gathering at the cordoned-off film sets, hoping to catch a glimpse of the action and their favorite stars. Their patience has been rewarded, with Tom Holland himself reportedly taking time to interact with fans and pose for selfies.
While the original filming schedule was set to conclude on August 15th, Marvel has successfully secured permission for an additional 11 days, extending the shoot until August 26th. This extension means more opportunities for fans to witness the magic of Hollywood unfold on their doorstep and for the city to continue its role as a stunning cinematic double for New York.
The extended filming schedule comes with new road closures and traffic restrictions, which have been communicated to residents by the Glasgow City Council. The production, which was relocated from Liverpool, has been a major event for the city, generating significant excitement and acting as a vibrant hub for film enthusiasts.
Onlookers have already reported seeing thrilling stunt work, including high-speed car chases and the Spider-Man stunt double performing death-defying swings and stunts. With the extension, it’s clear that the production team is dedicated to capturing even more thrilling action sequences and building a truly epic cinematic experience for audiences worldwide.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the fourth installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man franchise, with director Destin Daniel Cretton at the helm. The film is set to explore a new chapter for Peter Parker following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, and by all accounts, the Glasgow shoot is promising an unforgettable ride for fans.
