Eugene Majuru in Glasgow

Everything has a beginning and an ending so goes the ending as Glasgow saw the end of the 2014 Games with a historic closing ceremony held at Hampden Park on Sunday night.

The past 11 days have been action packed at various venues in Scotland and streests have been busy with shoppers and activities which saw businesses open till late for most days to enable tourists to shop.

Commonwealth Games Federation Chief Executive Mike Hooper earlier termed the “standout Games in the movement`s history”.

Australia`s Kylie Minogue and Lulu dished out their musical performance to the 40 000 spectators who filled up the Stadium.

More people who spoke to News Of The South on Glasgow`s streets would have wanted to attend the closing ceremony but were disappointed as tickets were completely sold out.

Rhythmic symnast Fransesca Jones from Wales received the david Dixon Award during the closing ceremony.

Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) chairman Prince Imran declared the event ‘in every aspect the best Games ever’, as he praised Team Scotland’s performance.

Athletes from around the Commonwealth nations and spectators were treated to routines ranging from ceilidh dances to the Slosh, a type of line dance strongly favoured by drunk aunties at Scottish weddings.

The closing ceremony ended with Auld Lang Syne as Glasgow bid farewell to Games that will remain in many people`s minds for a very long time to come.

Australia will host the next Commonwealth Games in 2018.
