The Foundation for Youth, Peace and Development (FYPD) wish to call on child centered organizations in Ghana, and individuals who have the welfare of children at heart, to condemn in no uncertain terms, the rising cases of infanticide and other forms of child abuse in the country.

We also wish to call on them to embark on series of activities, including demonstrations in all the Regional capitals of the country with the aim of calling on the Ghanaian people and the state institutions responsible for protection of children, to do more to protect the Ghanaian child from physical harm, as stipulated by the children’s Act,1998,Act 560.

The FYPD considers the current trend of daily reports in the mass media, of child death and child abuse under very horrifying circumstances including; beheading of children for ritual purposes, hanging of innocent children in the guise of suicide, children falling into KVIP, burial of children alive on account of witch craft or some other superstitious reasons ,confinement to rooms and molestation of mentally retarded children and countless other examples, as most worrying, and should be condemned by all well meaning Ghanaians.

The Foundation finds it particularly unpardonable, the unbelievable level of negligence, especially on the part of parents, that continue to lead to the burning of innocent children to ashes by fires caused.


We are convinced, that the persistence of the phenomenon is due to the fact, that the issue of protection of children from physical harm is not given the attention it deserves.

We therefore wish to call on all organizations working for children in the country to lead a campaign against the trend, in order to prevent more innocent children from losing their lives through such incidents.
