Namayingo – Four Ugandan artists drowned in lake Victoria after the boat they were travelling in capsized on Tuesday.

The four identified as Faisal Maganda, 25, Mawazi Mukuve, 20, John Bwire, 30, and Sadat Mayumba, 27, all residents of Namayingo Town..

The artists were part of a 15-man group of artistes returning to Busiro Landing Site from Sigulu Island, where they had gone to perform during Easter festivities.

According to Charles Ouma one of the survivors, the accident occurred after they had travelled for 30km when the boat hit a strong wave and the captain lost control of the boat.

Namayingo District Police Commander Johnson Kiconco who confirmed investigations into the cause of the accident were ongoing also highlighted the accident could have been a result of overloading.

A total of 15 people were travelling on the boat together with a public address system, sacks of cassava flour and the boat crew.
