KABALE- Former Health minister in the Obote II government, Ezrah NKwasibwe, 74, has attacked youth who pretend to be patriotic but turn around and receive bribes from President Museveni and other leaders who seek to further their political ambitions.
Dr Nkwasibwe said the current behaviour of youth leaders, especially, those demanding for handouts promotes corruption, a vice they [youth] should be fighting.
“It’s a shame for youth leaders to demand and receive bribes from leaders, especially the President, promising to support his 2016 presidential bid,” he said.
“We were patriotic during our youth days and that is why this country looks the way it does today,” he added.
Dr Nkwasibwe was on Tuesday speaking to journalists in Kabale Town as he commented on the current politics in Uganda.
“I wonder why the President, the fighter of corruption, has not questioned such behavior. He will soon leave, but what kind of leaders shall he leave,” Dr Nkwasibwe wondered.
A number of reports continue to appear in the press alleging that some youth are soliciting or receiving bribes from political factions, especially that of President Museveni in return for support and allegiance.
MPs in various constituencies across the country have been seen distributing money as they popularise the February Kyankwanzi resolution that seeks to front President Museveni as the sole NRM presidential candidate in the 2016 elections.
But Mr Ofwono Opondo, the NRM deputy spokesman and government’s Media Centre boss, told the Daily Monitor yesterday that Dr Nkwasibwe was politically dead and “is attacking the President to resurrect his political career”.
“Even politically dead people criticise Mr Museveni and he takes it in good faith because he is the President for everyone,” he said. – Monitor
