London (News of The South) – Africa Repatriation Committee (ARC) was formed on January 12, 2020. The organisation was founded by Princess of Harare, Princess Eugene Majuru and Pastor Richard Tembo.
With the issue of repatriation gaining momentum, African countries that were victims of colonisation and who now seek to pursue repatriation and reparations are stepping forward with similar projects.
On the 11th and 12th of January 2020 Kenya held their conference themed Changing the Narrative Heritage and Culture to discuss issues related to colonialism, repatriation of ancestral remains, artefacts and reparation and Zimbabwe was not left out in the discussion.
In attendance was the Governor of Kericho in Kenya which shows how the government of Kenya appreciates the exercise being undertaken to spearhead the issues of repatriation and reparation.
The similarities of the way Africa’s problems relate to one another regarding colonisation, call for concerted oneness to remind ourselves of what happened and how best we can avoid it happening again. Realising that there may be a difference in how cultural events and rituals are performed in our respective countries, we are not however lost in our observation that there are indeed common similarities in the way we all feel about how and why these issues should be addressed.
As a result of this realisation, we unequivocally agreed to form an African Committee of Repatriation and Reparation. This committee is a very high profile committee which embraces most of African colonised countries that are willing to pursue these important national issues and the full composition of the committee will be released in due course. It is a very diverse committee running across Africa, the main reason that inspired such inclusivity is that, the leaders of our continent saw it fit to form continental organisations such as the OAU, AU, SADC and ECOWAS in order to consolidate Africa’s position on the global community. Similarly, we felt that we as descendants of the former victims of colonialism have a duty to carry the reality of this issue to the fore in terms of raising awareness.
These organisations of course have to do with economical and political perspective of Africa, where as the ARC looks at embracing cultural, social, Spiritual, heritage and African royalty as well as research on certain aspects pertaining to how Africa can work together in respect of certain areas of cultural convergence.
Taking the country like Rwanda for example, how they have managed to make their people accept to move on as brothers and sisters together in peace after the horrendous calamity that the nation experienced in years past, we felt it very imperative to dig a little deeper into our conscience, to see if African countries cannot learn something from it, and may be do the same.
So with all this in mind and following spiritual guidance, it is possible to succeed. More members are welcome to join and work collectively to retrieve all that was stolen from Africa during colonisation.
