Lilongwe, Malawi. (News of The South) Foot and Mouth that attacks cattle hits Malawi especially the northern district of Mzimba.
The affected Zioni village under Champhila Extension Planning Area (EPA) and has spread to Jenda and surrounding areas.
The press statement released by Ministry of Agriculture and water development signed by Gray Nyandule Phiri said Government is working tirelessly around the clock to end this.
“Foot and Mouth disease is highly and contagious viral disease that mostly affect cattle,preliminary investigation by veterinary officials indicate 284 clinical cases out of a total of 5,080 cattle in the affected kholas,”
At the moment 80,000 castles remain at immediate risk within the affected EPA and surrounding areas.
Mean while the ministry has banned selling of fresh meat and Milk in all meat outlets and butchers in the northern city of Mzuzu and surronding districts until the pedemic ceased.
