(News of The South) – Malala Yousafzai is a Pakistani activist for female education and the youngest Nobel Prize laureate. She is known for human rights advocacy, especially the education of women and children in her native Swat Valley in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northwest Pakistan.
Her advocacy has grown into an international movement, as she has become the most prominent citizen of their country and around the world.
Growing up or being a girl child in Pakistan is not always a cause for celebrating, but Malala Yousafzai had the opportunity of getting all the privileges meant for a boy child that is the right to education and in today’s world some are failing to get the same opportunity.
In 2008 everything changed when the Taliban took control of the town in Swat Valley. The extremists banned many things like owning a television and playing music, they also said girls could no longer go to school and enforced harsh punishments for those who defied their orders.
After all this, Malala spoke out publicly on behalf of girls and the right to learn and this made her a target. In October 2012, she was shot on the left side of her head on her way back from school. She woke up 10days later in Birmingham, England and continued the rest of her recovery there.
This is knowledge of how the world has become so insensitive and cruel, as there is no acknowledge of the works done to help others in having a better life, education and even a brighter future instead they opt to shoot, destroying so many innocent lives in fighting what they believe in. Many people are afraid of expressing their views and thoughts because the extremists that comes along in standing and believing in having equal opportunities without any discrimination involved. Everyone has the right to free education especially for our young females and not making it seem like a favor to be going to school.
After months of surgeries and rehabilitation, Malala did not stop fighting and ensuring that all the girls receive 12 years of free, safe, quality education.
She is travelling to meet girls fighting poverty, wars, child marriage and gender discrimination to go to school. Malala Fund is working so that their stories, like hers can be heard around the world.
