Malawi (News of The South) – One of the aspirants vying for the presidential seat of the country’s football governing body, Alufeyo Chipanga has described the current Football Association’s first vice President, James Mwenda’s Presidential bid as a big joke of the century.
Chipanga met Journalists at the Mzuzu stadium just after the Mzuni/Karonga United Tnm Super League match on Sunday.
He said Mwenda should not seek any vote for the highest office of the football Association of Malawi (FAM) having contributed nothing in his 15 years spent at Chiwembe as the Association’s second in command.
“Mwenda is a failure who has already been at FAM for about 15 years, so should he come out and start cheating us that he can develop our football today?” Chipanga queried.
And commenting on the Northern Region Football Association (NRFA’s) endorsement of Mwenda before they saw his manifesto, Chipanga described the move as very unfortunate.
“How can the NRFA endorse someone without any comparison of our manifestos, that is very undemocratic.
“I will be meeting them very soon so that they can appreciate what I have in my football development plan,” Chipanga said.
A few weeks ago the NRFA General Secretary, Masiya Nyasulu told the media that his Association have already settled for Mwenda, a development which invited heavy condemnation from other quarters.
During a brief meeting with the press in Mzuzu a fortnight ago, Mwenda praised the current FAM leadership and the executive as one such vibrant team which has taught him a lot in the implementation of football development programs.
FAM goes to the elective general assembly in December on a date and venue to be announced later.
