Harare,Zimbabwe (News Of The South) Traditionally dreadlocks is one famous hairstyle that resembles cultural significance set aside only for the elite religious persons.
Such people were probably born with spiritual blessings and had a mission to execute emanating from the spiritual realm.
In an interview with Mbuya Mujena, a spirit medium who resides at the Great Zimbabwe Village, people of today just keep the dreadlocks for the sake of fun and fashion when in actual fact they depict religious essence.

“Today we see young people keeping these dreadlocks for the sake of fun and fashion infused with the era of modernity but when it comes to our own local traditional believes the hairstyle is actually associated with spirit mediums and people of similar nature.”
In the pre history setup both man and women who had spiritual blessings would keep dreadlocks as a signature that certifies there coexistence with the spiritual being.
“ In our culture when you see me with these dreadlocks it shows that I am a “Chiremba” spirit mediums as I core exist with the spiritual being.”
Many people usually visit the Great Zimbabwe Village with the view to inquire of their future and spiritual assistance from Mbuya Mujena. Such was a scenario during the the precolonial era when the local traditional culture was predominant in the entire society.
Mbuya Majena herself keeps dreadlocks as her life hairstyle and this help people identify her as a spirit medium and sometimes is referred as “Chiremba” Shona word for spirit medium.
Mbira groups in many sections of the society are also identified with the traditional hairstyle.
Rastafarianism is also another religious movement which still adheres to the cultured life of keeping dreadlocks.
