Harare, Zimbabwe (News of The South) – Zimbabwean author Elias Machemedze, renowned for his works on the nation’s history and heroes, is set to launch his latest book, “Story of the Role of Herbert W. Chitepo in Zimbabwe’s Liberation Struggle,” in London this April. This announcement follows the book’s successful launch in Harare on May 7, 2021, and its subsequent adoption as a GCSE O-Level set book in Zimbabwe’s curriculum.
Machemedze’s book, published under his own company Literature Uproar PBC delves into the life and contributions of Herbert Chitepo, a pivotal figure in Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle. The book, officially titled “Herbert W. Chitepo: Story of the Role of Herbert W. Chitepo in Zimbabwe’s Liberation Struggle – O’ Level History-Heritage Studies (Resource Book),” serves as a study guide for students exploring Zimbabwe’s history, heritage, and journey to independence. It has been approved by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education and is now a key component of the O-Level curriculum.
The significance of Machemedze’s work has been recognized by various institutions, including the Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (ZIMSEC), which previously approved his book “Sarawoga” as an O-Level Shona set book. His writing often explores themes of Zimbabwe’s history, culture, and the struggles of its people, solidifying his position as a crucial voice in preserving and disseminating the nation’s heritage.
Machemedze’s upcoming visit to London University, where Herbert Chitepo himself studied, underscores the book’s importance in connecting historical narratives with their geographical roots. He is scheduled to meet with University Vice-Chancellor Wendy Thompson during his visit.
In a significant development aimed at ensuring accessibility for all high school students, UNICEF has committed to funding the production of 750,000 copies of the book for the O-Level curriculum. This initiative highlights the book’s educational value and its potential to shape the understanding of Zimbabwe’s history among its youth.
Machemedze’s other notable works include “Nherera Zvirange,” “Moyo Inzenza,” and “Kupotsa Kwegodzi,” further showcasing his dedication to Zimbabwean literature and history. The upcoming London launch of “Herbert W. Chitepo” is eagerly anticipated, marking another milestone in his career and bringing Zimbabwe’s rich history to a wider audience. The exact date of the London launch in April is yet to be announced.Machemedze will be accompanied on the UK trip by his Manager Joshua Zimzombe.
