GABERONE (Botswana) – (News of The South) – Econet boss Dr Strive Masiyiwa has launched a job creation project in Botswana in what he described as a tribute to the country’s population for supporting his telecoms company founded just across the border of his home country Zimbabwe.

Masiyiwa admits the telecoms business made him rich and he has to give something back to Botswana’s people. He was in Botswana jointly addressing a Youth Entrepreneurs Projects conference on Tuesday with Botswana President Masasi.

At a conference streamed live worldwide on Facebook, Masiyiwa also invited the young aspiring entrepreneurs to buy shares in his Botswana telecoms company.

The new jobs announced will be created in the introduction of broadband to houses throughout Botswana.

The first batch of training trainers starts within three months. Masiyiwa insisted on gender balance in the job creation programmes.

“If it’s going to be 100 trainees I want 50 50, male and female,” he said amid cheers from the attending dozens of youths from different towns of Botswana.
Sitting side by side with Masiyiwa, President Masasi said Botswana is always ready for business opportunities and praised his Cabinet ministers for their work which he rated as fast as broadband.
