Woo hoo! The hang over from over drinking and over eating during the Christmas festive period is slowly getting behind us – we ate and drank with hardly a care! As the year draws to a close -we must start warming up to the New Year. It is now time to face the New Year head on – It is now time to make those New Year resolutions. Do you still make New Year resolutions? As for me I have stopped completely to make New Year resolutions. I don’t want to mortify myself by making New Year resolutions which I will never achieve. I’m now kind of a person who waits and see what the New Year and the future has in store for me – I no longer believe in making hay whilst the sun lasts. I take each day as it comes.
To find out what other people feel about making New Year resolutions I took a snapshot survey to find their views. Below are some of the answers the respondents gave me.
Nicola, Wales: “ha ha ha, your question is very interesting. I don’t do resolutions any more I wait for anything to happen to avoid disappointments. To me it doesn’t make sense to build castles in the air.”
Debbie, London: “I believe in making New Year resolutions, one should have a plan of action in life. Next year I am planning to go to University. I see no reason why I cannot achieve that I have already passed my access to nursing course. People must learn to make resolutions for the coming year. Write everything you want to achieve the following year in a diary. Give yourself the time-frame of achieving your goals by marking the dates you intend to start and finish the project on a calendar by so doing you will keep track of your resolutions.”
Tom, Wolverhampton: “I do make New Year resolutions but before one makes those resolutions ask God through prayer to help you achieve them. God is the giver of life and is the giver of those blessings. If you shun God your New Year resolutions will hit a brick wall, mate. In God we trust, mate.”
Gidza, Harare: “Zvekuvaka danga pasina mombe ndozvineyi? Why should I make New Year resolutions? You need money to make those resolutions successful. What is important for me now is to have food on the table. Do you think I am that type of person who can waste time planning for tomorrow which might never come? Zvekupedzera tsvimbo kumakunguwo ndozvineyi – there are better things to do than making New Year resolutions.”
Carol, Wales: “As a mother I should make New Year resolutions for the good of your children. In the coming year I plan to open savings accounts for my two kids. I have the will power to do it. As a mother I should be seen doing something for my children. If I don’t do it, who will do it for them, I’m a single mother. All things are possible if you plan ahead.”
After hearing some people offering their views on how they feel about making New Year resolutions, I’m left convinced that New Year resolutions do work for some – and they’re some who don’t give a damn. It’s a matter of choice in an egalitarian world.
