Harare (NewsoftheSouth) – DENFORD Mutashu, the President of the Conferderation of Zimbabwe Retailers, has gained another feather in his cap with his appointment as Chairperson of the Superbrand Adjudication Committee, effective June 1, 2020.

In announcing the appointment, the Marketers Association of Zimbabwe (MAZ) acknowledged that Mutashu is a passionate retailer with extensive exposure to brands and businesses in Zimbabwe.

A former General Manager and Board Member at FoodWorld Supermarkets for a period spanning 17 years, Mutashu who takes over the chair from Dr Eve Gadzikwa whose term expired at the end of May 2020, has interests in the clothing and food retail.

“It is an exciting opportunity for me to work with the leading brands in Zimbabwe,” Mutashu said in accepting his appointment.

And the young businessman has his agenda set:

“We should do everything that we can to ensure that we not only resuscitate those brands that could be facing challenges, but also ensure that there are other emerging brands in the country.”

Mutashu, acknowledging that his appointment came with an extra challenge where business is subdued because of the impact of COVID-19, noted that brands were struggling to meet market demand.

A committee member during Dr Gadzikwa’s reign, Mutashu said he had learnt a lot from his predecessor, thanking her for her stewardship.

“I have been part of the committee and it has been quite exciting during that period that I’ve worked under the stewardship of Dr Gadzikwa and l will continue to work with her during my tenure.

“She has lots of knowledge about standards, about brands, about the market dynamics in Zimbabwe,” he extolled his predecessor.

The MAZ was ecstatic over the new chairperson.

MAZ Secretary General, Mr Gillian Rusike, said Mutashu was bringing in vast experience and knowledge.

“We know him to be very passionate about local brands from his responsibilities as the President of the Zimbabwe Retailers Association and a local business person.

“The board is confident he will bring vast knowledge about our brands and that wisdom will perpetuate our business sector into higher dimensions of competitiveness as they push for quality products in Zimbabwe,” Rusike said.

Mutashu is also an avid football follower; a Manchester United fan, and has analytical stints on local broadcaster ZBC on its sport segments.
