President Jacob Zuma on Friday announced that the icon and former South Africa President Nelson Mandela who died on December 5 will be laid to rest in his ancestral homeland, Eastern Cape Province on December 15.
The South African government set a week of national mourning which includes an open- air memorial service to be held on December 10 at the Soccer City Stadium, Johannesburg.
President Zuma also declared Sunday, December 8 a day of prayer and reflection and people have been urged to gather in churches, mosques and synagogues to pray on Nelson Mandela’s life.
The anti-apartheid leader aged 95 died at his Johannesburg home surrounded by his family and friends during the late hours of Thursday.
