Daddy
Had l known that our time together
was to be as short as news in brief,
I would have danced with you often
Had l known that death is a midnight witch,
I would have kept vigil and cast the spell,
Your death came silent like the rising mist,
It shocked like maggots about to sprout wings
It caught us unaware, l can’t reverse it.
Now that you’re blue, have eternal rest,
Now that you’re invisible, l’m your voice
Your unfinished projects I fulfil with grit,
guided by your acumen in retrospection.
Daddy over your death I mourn, I grieve
I yearn for another laugh, but it’s too late.
You’ve drifted into the twirls of twilight.
I’m left wandering lonely like a cirrus
cloud caught up in a solar eclipse.
As I grieve l look up, and in the sky,
I see first of the moons we will not share
and l can do nothing,
this is my vigil, the lit candle.
