Zimbabwe (News Of The South) – Coventry City FC ex-striker. also a Zimbabwe soccer legend and current Mamelodi Sundowns Team manager Peter Ndlovu (47) has been exposed for abrogating responsibility over the upkeep of a boy child born to him and Ms Loraine Makhumalo Sibanda.
Ms. Sibanda is a Zimbabwean media entrepreneur based in South Africa. She recently posted a somewhat scathing letter, which on social media, expressing disappointment at the former football star’s intransigence at providing for the newborn.
“You wake up in your fancy Greenstone Mansion without a care where your son is. You have the luxury of having prawns on your menu, and sharing it with the world online, not knowing what your son is going through,” reads a section of the letter, preceded by much reflection of how they had met at a party, the succeeding events and much complaint at Ndlovu’s carefree attitude towards the child that resulted from their relationship.
“Arriving at the party, I was pleasantly surprised by how humble you were. I had worked with a couple of celebrities and fame does get the best of some of them. So you can imagine my surprise in realizing you were nothing like what I had experienced (or so I thought),” the lady says in the same letter.
Sibanda further decries how she was ignored when she reached out through her uncle, to Peter’s family on the matter.
“I also made an effort to send my uncle to speak to your brother Madinda Ndlovu, just prior to giving birth and woke up being blocked on Whatsapp,” she complains.
This latest revelation by Ms Sibanda brings the unverified reported estimate number of children fathered by Mr. Ndlovu to 41, equal to the number of goals the former player scored at Coventry City FC.
Peter is no stranger to controversy around responsibility for his children as quite a number of women have taken him to court over child maintenance claims.
In Mar 2012, for example, South African Sharon Dee, whose real name is Hlengiwe Hlamini, told a South African publication that Ndlovu was not paying for child maintenance. She therefore took the kids to live with Peter’s sister in London.
Ndlovu had also tried to shirk paternity of his twins with ‘Sharon Dee’, whose real name is Hlengiwe Hlammini. He filed and lost a case at the Rand Maintenance Court in 2009 where he had requested DNA tests on his sons arguing that they were not his.
Nonetheless Ndlovu is reported to be fairly affluent in life with an estimated net worth of up to US10 million. Records reflect that he also owns several properties in and outside Zimbabwe. Peter also at one time paid for the whole Zimbabwe national team’s stay in Kinshasa for a week while preparing for a match.
‘Nsukuzonke,’ as his Highlanders fans called him, became the first African to play in the newly formed English Premier League August 19 1992, when he replaced John Williams in the 70th minute of Coventry’s away victory against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane.
He grew up in the Binga district of Zimbabwe. Ndlovu’s brothers, Adam and Madinda, were also international players.
Peter also remains Zimbabwe’s all-time leading goal scorer.
