MURAMBINDA,Zimbabwe.(News of the South)- Soldiers manning Coronavirus roadblocks in Buhera District allegedly demand US dollars to allow villagers to pass, News of the South reveals.
Sources from the remote rural Buhera who travelled from Harare to Betera, some 70km due east from Murambinda were made to pay at least 1USD per person to go through the roadblock.
They encountered 4 roadblocks along the dust road and each person paid 8USD in total for the trip as they didn’t have Corona letters allowing them to travel during the lockdown.
“When you get at a roadblock with people in your car they ask letters, no letters those without pay dollar each gate pass,” said a source who cannot be named as he can be victimised.
He added that at queues at Mkuru Murambinda soldiers also ask money to jump line as the broke soldiers swindle money from poor villagers who would have travelled to collect some moneys sent from the Diaspora.
Villagers and residents of Murambinda are saying soldiers are now surpassing Mugabe/Chihuri police force in terms of corruption.
