Harare, Zimbabwe (News of the South)-The Zimbabwe Republic Police aims to reduce crime by 3% by the end of 2016 and will offload any senior officers who seem to drag back in the achievement of the forces’ Policing Expectations for the year.

Officially opening the 2016 Assistant Commissioners Seminar in Harare, Police Commissioner General Augustine Chihuri warned senior officers that they risked being offloaded if the objectives were not met.

“I’m confident that all of you received… copies of the organisation’s Policing Expectations for the year 2016 and hope you noted that the organisation aims at reducing all forms of crime by 3% by December… it’s my candid belief that you are all working towards the realization if not surpassing of those expectations”.

“I am however aware of some Senior Officers who are in the habit of passively resisting directives and a penchant for adopting a ‘wait and see’ attitude hoping that we will not follow up on our expectations”.

“Let me stress this clear…. the Command at Police General Headquarters is keeping a forensic eye on all activities taking place at your respective provinces. There are those who decide to adopt a lackadaisical approach towards work, either thinking that they have gotten the ranks they aspired for, or that they have seen it all in their current ranks”.

‘The ZRP refuses to be home to reluctant officers who tend to retire when they are still serving. So do not blame anyone if the organisation decides to confirm your retirement from retirement”, he said.

The Police Commissioner said the force needed transformative leadership that stands ready to lay and build foundations for the sustenance of peace in the country.

“The tendency where some misguided Senior Officers act as relay neurons that, transmit reports occurring in their Provinces to Police General Headquarters or the Command, without interrogating or adding value to them, will surely quicken your way to early retirement’, he warned the gathered Assistant Commissioners.

In an endeavor to achieve its aims the Zimbabwean police has since taken up an Integrated Results Based Management Agreement (IRBMA) which has however faced opposition from some sections within the force.
