This weight is just about the size of two newly born babies.

The baby and woman are both reported to be in good health.

According to Doctors at the Shanghai hospital the reason for the big sized baby was due to the fact that the mother had eaten much more than usual and spent a lot of time in bed during pregnancy.

The mother claims to have eaten a lot of fruit which resulted in the embryo growing fast and beyond the normal size.
The child’s mother said she had eaten ‘a lot of fruit’ during her pregnancy, she drank a glass of milk and ate an egg and lots of fruit every day.

A relative added: “Soup with chicken, pigeon and fish is normal for an expectant mother, as well as seafood including shrimp and fish.”

Xu Chang’en, associate chief physician of the obstetrics department of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Hospital of Fudan University, said the baby could face health problems in the future.

“Obesity may affect the baby’s health in the future. Rates of obesity and diabetes are obviously higher for an adolescent or an adult who was born overweight” he said.

China`s biggest baby is believed to belong to Chun Chun, from Xinxiang city in Henan Province, who weighed 15lbs 8oz (7.04kg) in 2012.

UKs baby was born in 1992 and weighed 7.03kg (15lbs 8oz).

Pregnant women are encouraged to remain active during pregnancy and to maintain a healthy diet.

Diabetes during pregnancy (gestational diabetes) can often lead to he birth of big babies but the baby can always be protected through the mother maintaining certain blood sugar levels through a balanced diet or the mother to be taking medication to maintain certain sugar levels during pregnancy.

Usually women who have diabetes during pregnancy do not carry the pregnancy to full term as this may put the unborn baby at risk. The pregnant woman is induced so the baby is born earlier to avoid complications.
