Chamisa has failed his supporters.
Since the previous elections, Chamisa has been very quiet. When leadership was needed, these guys were nowhere to be seen. We saw the military murder of innocent people, we witnessed the arrest of party cadres, we are watching the destruction of the Alliance.
Where is Chamisa leadership? He is nowhere to reassure his supporters. Leaders are visible in moments of crisis. MDC A leadership is nowhere when its supporters yearns for reassurance and direction. Why have the leaders not been conducting rallies via Zoom etc to reassure supporters?
Let’s be honest folks, MDC was founded as a copy cat of Zanu minus it’s useless liberation mantra. Tsvangirai copied everything Zanu as is ED doing now with MDCA. Both are similar in everything and hence unable to deal with crises. Zanu has for decades failed to deal with national crises because it is based on individualism and rhetoric and not policy and constitution it lies about everyday. MDCA is equally the same, a voice of protest devoid of grounded political strategy and appealing policies.
Chamisa has dismally failed to use his political appeal and popularity. No other political party leader outside Zanu, save for Nkomo and Tsvangirai had mass support like Chamisa. He has failed as Tsvangirai did, to translate it into victory.
We should not make excuses about the military killings and arrests. Look at global politics where there is dictatorship which was eventually dethroned. The people had decisive leadership. If no leadership was in the open, it allowed activists to lead!! In Zim activists are looked upon with suspicion. Yes most are suspect indeed, bit some have been good get ignored by mainstream politicians out of mere jealousy.
It is time Chamisa and others renamed their party or formed one that is not moulded in the structures of Zanu. Other than that, Zimbabwe is now a One Party State. Zanu has finally routed out all opposition.
Let’s look at Khuphe!
The main culprit of Opposition politics was none other than Tsvangirai who was given the entitlement of leadership in opposition politics. He created the mess in the party with the support of the very people now destroying Chamisa. When Alliance was called for in 2008, Khuphe, like Nyagumbo resisting Zanu/Zapu unity, shot it down because she didn’t want many fellow Ndebeles in the leadership.
When Chamisa was appointed, none of her comrades today stood with her, they ignored her misery. We had to console her. Come the current Alliance, she supported it if it was to be enforced in any other party of the country but not Matabeleland; again refusing to work with fellow Ndebeles. Is there a reason why this pattern is her leadership strait?
When she has her pathetic ‘Congress’ she unilaterally appointed Linda Masarira as her Spokesperson!! What did she know about Linda? Who were the people in her party before this Supreme Court judgement? As a leader in MDC and MDCT for years what has she achieved? Was she popular? Nooo. She only survived in the leadership because of Tsvangirai, as a female VP, and mainly as a Ndebele representative in political style. As we speak Khuphe can not address Harare folks who have told her many times after the SC judgement to go to hell. Who then is the leader on that party? Mwonzora who has some appeal. Matabeleland could not even vote for Khuphe or bother attend her rallies in the last elections. So where is her support? She has overwhelming support in Zanu.
The people who should be regretting a this drama are MDC led by Prof Welshman Ncube. Because the masses preferred MDCT over MDC in most elections l was one of those who urged MDC to join hands in the formation of MDC A. Little did we know the world will come to rescue Zanu through a coup and strategists.
What do we do?
Change name. Campaign. Address masses, be visible. Employ strategists. Employ media personnel. There is room to do more to recover with a focused leadership. Choose right people emakhaya as party leaders and not impose MPs and Councillors as Komichi did in the previous elections. Be genuine and not Zanu copy cat.
On the whole, failure to do so, Chamisa must be reconsider his position.
