Harare, Zimbabwe (News of The South) – In a move that will make a substantial impact to Zimbabwean football, UK based CAPS United legends have donated sportswear and equipment to 10 football academies dotted around the country.

Speaking at the handover ceremony Monday afternoon, Timothy Chirozvani, a representative from the CAPS United Legends UK said this donation is a culmination of the function they undertook last year to mobilize resources that would assist upcoming Zimbabwean footballers to thrive.

Chirozvani, who is also a former football player said their donation knows no boundaries as it is directed towards various academies regardless of their affiliations adding that they have organized another function on the 14 of December to mobilize more sportswear and equipment.

“It always gives us pleasure to be able to give back to the communities that raised us, in as much as we now have busy schedules that do not allow us much time on the field we feel the game should play on.

“We are of the view that no matter who the victor is after a match, we are one people and that is why this donation is unconditional, it will cater for any academy regardless of the teams they represent,” said Chirozvani.

Former ZIFA chief executive Jonathan Mashingaidze said investing in the game was the best way to promote it and he was working hard to ensure that all players have a tool kit and player passports which clearly outline the medical records of players among other things.
Martin Changachirere from Peter Nkomo Academy commended the donation they received and encouraged other retired football legends to take a cue from CAPS United legends UK saying they were building bridges and leading by example.

“Allow me to pay tribute to CAPS United legends UK, they have brought the equipment we were in dire need of and it shall go a long way in uplifting the game of football.
“I believe there exists a Lionel Messi amongst us therefore this equipment will help identify talent although it is not an overnight thing, with initiatives like these we will reach where we want to go,” said Changachirere.

Stanley Chirambadare applauded the support they received saying CAPS United legends were an epitome of how football should be governed. He said other legends should emulate this and seek to promote togetherness that even brought the very existence of football instead of perpetrating jealousy and hatred.

The academies which benefitted from the donation are Peter Nkomo, Dynamos U18, Kwekwe United, Albun Soccer, Friendly, Revival, Thomas Banda, Peter Patsika and La Sakubva. The donation comprised sports shirts, bibs, sports socks, shorts, goal keeper attires, sports jerseys and balls among other things.
