Uganda, Jinja. – A group of unidentified thugs have broken into Christ’s Cathedral Bugembe and made off with the Church’s public address system, microphones, cables and a musical keyboard.
According to the church missions coordinator, Mr David Munobwa, the stolen equipment had been in the church for less than a year, having been bought in the first quarter of the year out of contributions by the Christians.
The Dean of the Cathedral, Rev Canon Paul Naimanhye, said the thugs who broke into the church last Friday had also made off with his personal laptop.
“A lot of vital information, including the programmes and projects of the church, were lost along with the laptop, which seems to have been the major target because it was in the vestry where they picked it from,” Rev Naimanhye said.
Guard to blame
The officer in charge of Bugembe Police Post, Mr Francis Musamali, said a security guard identified as Joseph Kabanga, who was on duty on the night of the break-in is being held by police to help with investigations.
The guard has in his initial statement told the police that he had left his duty station to seek shelter at the diocesan administration block due to the heavy downpour that day only to find the premises broken into when he returned.
