Botswana. ( News of The South) – The Botswana Diamonds (BOD) company is set to start a pilot diamond production plant in the Marange area of Zimbabwe.
The Marange area of Zimbabwe has in recent years, produced large quantities of diamonds.
BOD said delays at its projects in Botswana had resulted in a redirection of focus to other ventures.
BOD chair John Teeling said, “we plan to shortly commence royalty mining, a final agreement with the Zimbabwe authorities is imminent.”
Asian economies are showing the fastest increase in diamond consumption. There is a long way to go before the latent demand in these markets becomes satisfied.
There are not enough gemstone quality diamonds to provide a diamond ring for half of the population of China and India.
The US has continued to be an engine of growth for jewellery. Almost 50 percent of all diamond jewellery is bought by the US.
