Lilongwe, Malawi. (News of The South) – Former Bidvest Wits Midfielder, Papy Faty passed away after collapsing on the pitch in Eswatini on Thursday.

The 28 year old collapsed and died while playing in a league match between Malatini Chiefs and Green Mamba at the Killarney stadium in Piggs Peak outside the capital, Mbabane.



The Burundi international was released from his contract with a South African soccer premier league outfit, Witts a few seasons ago due to heart problem collapsed on the field of play after only 15 minutes on the pitch.

He was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead just upon arrival.
One of the senior officials at Malatin Chiefs confirmed Faty’s death but declined to reveal more information before the player’s next of kin was informed.

Faty is on record of helping his native country, Burundi to qualify for the continents greatest soccer festival, the Africa Cup of Nations finals to be staged in Egypt this year.

Faty has died following the death of another Cameroon star Vivian Foe who collapsed and died on the pitch due to cardiac arrest some years ago.
