Harare, Zimbabwe (News of The South) – Harding recently took to social media to say that the reason why Covid-19 infections and death rates in African countries have turned out to be much lower that initially feared because of poverty.
He was arguing that the opposite might actually be true that crowded areas actually offer a possible solution to the mystery that has been unresolved for months.
Many have found this claim very offensive and took to Twitter to write on the BBC page that they should take down what they had put up.
“Dear @BBCAfrica, there are some among us who find this headline as offensive,” said one fellow African.
Another one twitted:
“All Africans who live in the UK should simply stop paying for the extortionist BBC license fees until they remove this racist called Andrew Harding who has been writing stupid stories about Africa for decades.
“The BBC keep him because they agree with him, stop giving them money.”
“Dear Africans, do not keep quiet when your dignity is being defiled,Speak!
“Your #voice4change, headline now changed, poverty is not your saving grace from coronavirus infections,” said Thandie Mwepa.
“First they said Africans shall drop like flies because of our poor healthcare systems, then they said cases and deaths are not being reported and now it is because their immune systems are strong because of exposure to severe unhygienic conditions,” another fellow African twitted.
“This is very offensive and shows someone tinted with old school thinking about Africa.
“What has poverty got to do with Coronavirus?
“If that was true, the numbers should be even worse, come on, give us a break,” they added.
It was then left for the African leaders to read the BBC headlines and act upon then and develop Africa.
