Germany Champions Bayern Munich has made it 37 games without tasting a defeat in the league with a comprehensive 3-0 thumping of Augusburg in a Bundesliga match played at the Allianz-Arena Saturday afternoon.
Frank Ribery struck soon after Jerome Boateng’s early effort and a penalty from Thomas Muller made European champions to register their 37th game without defeat.
Bayern Munich who won treble last season broke the 1983 record set by Humburg by reaching 37 game unbeaten in the Bundesliga thanks to goals from Ribery, Boateng and Muller.
The match against Augsburg was played with joy and vigour especially with the prospect that Borussia Dortmund had lost 2-1 to Wolfsburg meaning that Bayern’s lead at the Bundesliga summit is prolonged to four points.
As early as the third minute Bayern had already caused problems for the visitors with Mario Mandzukic effort being thwarted by Marvin Hitz before Javi’ Martinez’s follow-up shot being parried away.
Although Mandzukic was in an offside position when he challenged Hitz for the loose ball caused an air of controversy as Bayern got their first goal from the resulting corner in which Boateng unleashes a left footed shot right into the corner.
Pep Guardiola’s side double their advantage three minutes before half-time when Ribery was brought down 20 yards before he struck an unstoppable free kick to give Bayern a 2-0 lead.
Thomas Muller come from the bench to convert from 12 yards after Mathias Ostrzolek was punished for handling Ribben’s cross.
Bayern’s next fixture will be against arch-rivals Borussia Dortmund soon after the international break.
