LONDON. (News of The South) – Zimbabweans from all walks of life joined hands in Harare in a quickly organised November 18 historic Freedom March against deposed president Robert Mugabe.
Similar marches were organised by Diasporans in major capitals of the world with the second biggest gathering outside Zimbabwe being recorded in London.
The marching was meant to coincide with the SADCC heads of state meeting in the neighbouring Botswana’s capital, Gaborone.
Perhaps hearing the echoes of the march from across the border in Zimbabwe, most SADCC leaders, 14 members club of southern African countries, called for Mugabe to step down immediately. That would avoid blood shed in a country where the military is still in charge and Mugabe is feared to be buying time for foreign intervention, including SADC itself.
Meanwhile, Zimbabweans have launched campaigns against any foreign intervention and a leading newspaper publisher, Mr Trevor Ncube has come out in the open to warn the SADC, the African Union, the EU and other forces not to intervene in the military takeover. Mr Ncube was merely echoing sentiment from Zimbabweans.
The ruling party ZanuPF party, that had previously indicated Mugabe would be the party’s presidential candidate for the 2018 elections has changed its mind calling their leader of nearly four decades to retire.
No immediate response to this move has yet been heard.
This move by ruling party itself has finally gained momentum and the courage to say so, behind the army. Mugabe is showcasing his arrogance while he is under house arrest.
In some military coups the population don’t know or hear what happens to the leader.
However Zimbabweans showed unity in Saturday’s anti-Mugabe match, a historic gathering which has given the military extra “ammunition”.
Messages from the Freedom March say it was an emotional experience in which people exchanged opinions on their economic hardships as Mugabe amassed properties by millions of dollars. For more than five hours there was whistling and cheering as people displayed placards denouncing Mugabe. Some people had huge pictures of Mugabe showing him asleep. Zimbabweans across the world glued themselves to smartphones for instant messages from the scenes in Harare and the international television broadcasters.
It is alleged that Gideon Gono has been arrested and found with $8million cash at his home, Mugabe had $8 billion, Chombo $10 million, Chipanga $20 million.
So the other fugitives are being vigorously pursued. Gideon is out of country, but yes, the money was found.
ZanuPF central committee meets Sunday to urgently impeach Mugabe to avoid that all talk about constitution of removing a sitting president and it’s settled.
