By Daniel Itai, Luanda, Angola.
(News of The South) – Angola’s fight against corruption has seen the recovery of more than US$5 billion in assets both locally and internationally.
The money was stolen from state coffers, including US$3 billion from the Sovereign Wealth Fund which was to promote growth, prosperity and social and economic development across Angola.
The fund was headed by the former President’s son, Jose Filomeno dos Santos who is facing charges of money laundering.
Regardless, Angola’s Finance minister, Vera Daves, is encouraging foreign investors to start investing in Angola.
“We are hoping for active participation of investors to acquire some of those companies and help us to develop other sectors.
This will help diversify the economy and transform Angola into a productive country that exports non-oil products,” said Daves.
