Dili, Timor-Leste. (News of The South) – Angola has opened an embassy in the Asian country of Timor-Leste, Angola’s ministry of Foreign Relations has revealed.
According to the ministry, the embassy will boost Angola’s relations with other members of the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries (CPLC). Angola is due to take on the rotating presidency of the CPLPC come 2020.
Manuel Augusto who is the minister of Foreign Affairs said the issue of freedom of movement of citizens among the Community’s nations would remain one of the priorities over the next two years, “Timor-Leste has a strategic role given its geographical location.”
Augusto further highlighted that Angola plans to make its membership of the Commonwealth official this year.
He further added that the government wanted to move ahead as quickly as possible in the process of joining the community of French-speaking countries.
