Luanda, Angola – The American government has pledged US$10 million to Angola in a bid which is meant to fight against HIV/AIDS.

Angola has around 310 000 people living with HIV. HIV is most prevalent amongst the ages of 15 and 49.

According to the Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) which is being led by the American government. Every individual in every community should have access to life-saving HIV prevention and treatment services.

“Angola has a relatively low number of people living with HIV across the country and, therefore, it has the opportunity to prevent HIV from becoming an epidemic. Collaborative efforts are needed to ensure that this vision comes true,” read a statement from PEPFAR.

The American government seeks to ensure that fewer and fewer Angolans get infected with the HIV virus and that those living with the virus can access life-saving treatments and live a healthy and fulfilling life for many years.
Furthermore, the American government is focused on decreasing mother-to-child HIV transmissions during pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding by 2022.
