Subject: Urgent Call to Reclaim and Restore Cranborne Boys High School

Dear Alumni of Cranborne Boys High,

I write to you as a Princess of Harare and a proud member of the Mbari clan, deeply concerned about the current state of Cranborne Boys High in Cranborne, Harare, Zimbabwe. It is shocking to see how the school’s facilities and grounds, once a source of pride and opportunity, are being mismanaged.

Reports and observations indicate the following concerning developments:

School grounds have been turned into maize fields. Areas that were once open fields for sports and recreation are now being used for farming purposes.

Swimming facilities have been repurposed. Changing rooms and other structures meant for students’ use are now being used for private purposes.

Chicken run on school property. Some facilities are being used to raise poultry, reportedly benefiting the headmaster personally.

Declining oversight by alumni associations. The Cranborne Boys High Old Students’ Union appears relaxed, with minimal involvement in protecting the school’s standards. Many alumni from the 1990s and 2000s have grown accustomed to seeing poor management and think it is normal.

These developments are not just a loss for the school—they are a threat to Zimbabwe’s sporting legacy, youth development, and community pride. Schools like Cranborne Boys High are meant to be incubators of talent, discipline, and leadership. What is happening now undermines all of that.

I call upon all alumni to take urgent action to reclaim and restore our school:

Revive and strengthen the Old Students’ Union – Build an active, accountable alumni network that safeguards the school’s facilities and standards.

Support the school and students – Provide mentorship, funding, and guidance to ensure sports and academic facilities are properly maintained.

Hold management accountable – Document misuse of school resources and advocate for corrective action from relevant authorities.

Preserve the school’s legacy – Work together to restore Cranborne Boys High as a center of excellence in academics, sports, and character development.

Cranborne Boys High is more than buildings or grounds; it is a symbol of heritage, opportunity, and pride. The responsibility to protect it lies with us, the alumni. Let us act now to ensure that today’s students and future generations inherit a school worthy of its name.

Yours faithfully,

Princess Eugene Majuru
