Harare, Zimbabwe (News of the South)- In a tragic show that was as pitiful as it was baffling the supposed guest of honour at a diabetes workshop in Harare, Dr Timothy Stamps, came and went away without saying anything to the gathered delegates as he continues to struggle with old age and sickness.

Though what exactly the former Health Minister, who now uses a wheelchair to move and had a neck brace, suffers from could not be ascertained though the absence of an interim measure to deal with giving a speech was baffling to many.

Besides seemingly refusing to give a speech, Stamps could not even answer the questions of the gathered doctors who had to do with answers from the Zimbabwe Diabetes Association (ZDA) president Chamunorwa Mangwiro.

Stamp who is the Health Advisor in the President’s Office became a ZANU-PF Member of Parliament at the 1985 general election and in 1986 was appointed as Minister of Health and Child Welfare – a position he held until 2002.

The strange happening on Tuesday left many of the delegates gathered at the venue to wonder what all the fuss had been about his coming when he could not do or say anything at the function.

The organisers of the function had to scramble around and change rooms back to the ground floor when they realised that Stamps had a wheelchair and could not be navigated up to the second floor.

After Stamps’ silent opening of the ceremony, massaged over by Dr Mangwiro who gave a hastily arranged prosaic speech, the Norvatis head Mr Mawoneyi gave a vote of thanks.

The event has been organized by Norvatis International a well-known diabetes drug supplier which has struck an agreement with the Zimbabwe Diabetes Association (ZDA) to supply subsidized drugs for local patients.
