News of the South HARARE – Star Light Global Team, a group of Africans based in the Diaspora, at the end of their two week tour of the country praised Zimbabwe for being an example of true independence to the rest of Africa despite pressures from the West to try and collapse the country’s economy.
The team said this during a press briefing facilitated by the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) in Harare yesterday.
Team Director, Shanice Linzy said after experiencing Zimbabwe for herself she now is an ambassador for the nation and will continue bringing other people to see the country for themselves and what it has to offer.
“My friends invited me here and when I came I saw for myself, went back and said I need to bring more people from the Diaspora to see Zimbabwe for themselves. Last year a group of 25, this year a group of 35,” Shanice said.
She added that Zimbabwe is a beautiful country with a history greater than what is taught in schools because of Western Education which she called “mis-education,” because they praise everything Western, castigating everything African.
“Your history goes back hundreds of thousands of years, time when Europeans were still living in caves, you had your kingdoms and palaces like the Great Zimbabwe in Masvingo,” she added.
Most of the members in the team said Zimbabweans are intelligent and strong and they are surprised by how they survived under sanctions which were meant to sabotage the “beautiful country and its resources.”
“Take Ghana as an example of tourism, learn their errors and uphold the integrity of your people.
“Ghana has not gained as much as you think she has. She has lost a lot because she has lost her identity, so I will suggest to you that you do your background research as to the effect tourism on African people’s countries before you open that gate far too wide.
“I give thanks to the people of Zimnbabwe that despite the pressures from Europe, you have kept the land pure as it was. We went to the caves and we saw how it was thousands of years ago and as you travel from Harare to Bulawayo I observed the landscape it is still clean, that is an achievement,” said one of the tourists Sister Wyn.
The team showed interest in investing in Zimbabwe especially farming and pledged to come back to Zimbabwe and also bring more people.
