The Nigerian city of Kano was on Sunday hit by a blast in an area with many bars and night spots according to Nigerian police.
Details of casualties have not yet been released.
A suspected car bomb was the cause, according to eye witnesses.
What is clear is that the explosion took place in an area mostly inhabited by Christians from southern Nigeria.
The Boko Haram militant Islamist group is known to have carried out attacks in Kano state.
The blast was so powerful that it was heard from several miles away in the predominantly Christian area of Sabon Giri.
