By Princess Eugene Majuru, Princess of Harare

Harare, Zimbabwe. (News of The South) – Zimbabwe’s former and late President Robert Gabriel Mugabe was 100 percent correct to withdraw Zimbabwe from the Commonwealth. The Commonwealth does not serve it’s intended purpose which is to share goals of democracy, peace, and prosperity, work together to protect the environment, support the rule of law, and develop their societies.

As long as Britain does not apologise for all the ills of colonialism and return all looted artifacts being in the commonwealth and allowing Britain to reign over them the former colonies are letting down all those who brutally murdered, the surviving descendants who were displaced from their land and lost heavily and had their way of life disrupted including traditions and culture eroded. The British culture and traditions are intact, they even copied a few things from their former colonies.

I am from the Mbari clan and descendant of King Mbari who ruled Harare in Zimbabwe until the British arrived and massacred thousands from our clan. They even wanted to make sure our clan was completely wiped out as they were instructed by Queen Victoria to wipe out the clan as they proved too powerful for their British South African Company (BSAP) army. Despite not having weapons like the British my Ancestors used mostly common sense and their inborn intelligence to stand their ground and fight the British. The British ended up requesting for reinforcements from the BSAC to fight the Mbari clan. They found the clan intimidating and just too powerful. They only managed to kill and brutally kill my Ancestors because the Hwata clan sold out and showed the British where the Mbari were hiding in caves which they dynamited and killed thousands of innocent people all for the sake of their greed.

Today I thank my Ancestors of the Mbari that I am in this World where I can freely speak about the injustice to my people and fight for their justice. The Mbari clan continue to be destitute as they lost their land in the Harare Kingdom. My brave and thoughtful Ancestor King Makombe who ruled at the tine the British arrived realised the British were on a mission to kill anyone in sight and the whole clan would perish. He instructed my people to run away and disperse in different directions and conceal their identity so they could never be identified. Being a Mbari clan member endangered my people as the British were after their blood and heads. Till now our clan is scattered all over Zimbabwe yet in Zimbabwe each clan lives in one area where they can easily support each other and preserve their heritage. When Harare was commercialised by being made capital city of the country which they named Rhodesia they created suburbsaand businesses and these are still in existence and most of the land is taken up and we can never get it back as many families have bought the land. Harare has up to now not had its traditional status restored and as a resukt traditional administration is not taking place thus creating more complicated problems fir Zimbabwe. We are currently fighting for British to return the heads of our Ancestors which they are hiding in various locations across the UK. The reluctance to return these is very heartbreaking especially to hear their refusal to apologise and pay compensation. For any other injustice the British know that compensation is paid and is accompanied by apologies but they arrogantly refuse to do either.
We then see confused and heartless blacks like Kemi Badenoch leader of British conservative party trying to fit in and uttering so much nonsense saying the call for reparations by former colonies is a scam. Africa, Asia and the Caribbeans suffered heavy losses and these former colonies continue to suffer. There is massive degradation to the environment as land is being disturbed for mining and “development” purposes that come in the form of modern colonialism known as neocolonialism.

Gone are the days for Britain to be reigning over the Commonwealth, Britain should only probably exist for trade purposes. 56 countries fall under the commonwealth and Britain reigns supreme by leading all of them and setting the rules which mostly favour them.
The Commonwealth includes countries that were once part of the British Empire, as well as other countries that can join, we see the most recent members to join were Gabon and Togo in 2022.

Countries in the Commonwealth especially former colonies should also join in the global conversation and demand for apologies and reparations, their failure and silence is so shocking. As one can imagine the African leaders are afraid to speak out for fear of victimisation or fear of being expelled from the Commonwealth. Only a person like the late Robert Mugabe former President of Zimbabwe is brave enough to have direct confrontation. How independent are all the countries in the Commonwealth?. As of now the interesting question is how does the Commonwealth move forward? Britain is dictating rather than all countries contributing. The Commonwealth does not have regular meetings with all the countries. Recently King Charles was in Australia on a Public Relations exercise which in my view doesn’t help. It’s good for England but what about all other countries?
